What will happen to Nottingham and West?

Great thought and consideration was given to the best way to address district growth, including the use of existing and new facilities. As the plan for a large elementary school for grades 1-5 became more concrete, the best options for use of existing facilities emerged.

With growing kindergarten enrollment and the possibility of an expanded fee-based educational preschool, Eudora West Elementary became the logical facility to house such programs. With just minor modifications, West will be able to accommodate the preschool and kindergarten programs for some time to come. These modifications are slated to include the additional and specialized restroom facilities required for this age of students.

In addition, the increasingly difficult maintenance issues at Nottingham, coupled with the dangerous high-traffic location, dictate that Nottingham will no longer be used as an attendance center. Renovating the building would cost the district $2-3 million, and the adjacent busy intersections would continue to pose great threats to the safety of pedestrians and young students.
