Mrs. Swanson's First Grade

When I posed our class with the problem, "How could you lift the teacher?" I heard several solutions. They ranged from bringing in a crane to making a stretcher to using the classroom rug. When presented with the same problem and two pieces of wood, a clever student suggested a teeter-totter. That's just what we did! With a lever and a fulcrum, students less than half my weight were able to lift the teacher!
Studying simple machines and the way things work is loads of fun!
