Mr. Day's Home Page
Instructor’s Statement
I graduated from the University of Kansas in 2000 with a B.S.E. in Biology, completed my teaching certificate in 2001, and graduated with a Masters Degree in Entomology from the University of Nebraska in Lincoln, in 2009.
Contact Information
I usually arrive in the building by 7:30 a.m. Mornings before class are the best time to reach me in the classroom for extra help; however I will meet with students after school by appointment, but I usually need to leave the building right after school to pick up my daughters from school & daycare.
The messaging feature in Moodle will be the fastest and most reliable way for students to get in contact with me. Keep in mind that this feature is not an instant messaging system and you may not receive an immediate response.
For parents E-mail will be the fastest and most reliable way to get it contact with me. In most cases, I will be able to respond to your request within 24 hours.

PROGRESS REPORTS
All student progress will be available through the PowerSchool link, on the district homepage; http://ps.eudoraschools.org/public/. If you would like an email progress report please make a direct request to the instructor that a report be sent to you. This must be done each time you would like an update. Please include the full name of your student.
Students are required to supply the following items for their use in the course: blue or black pens, #2 lead pencils, a three-ring binder, note book paper, a calculator, and a composition notebook.
Homework Policy
Each student is responsible for his or her own course work. You will keep track of your class records, and some grading. At the completion of a unit, each student should organize and assemble all of the work in a portfolio, and then hand in the portfolio of work for audit and recording by the instructor. All portfoliosand the associated assignments are optional and will not be graded for credit. Portfolios are emphasized as a means of student self-assessment and students will have the opportunity to complete a portfolio and earn extra credit associated with reaching their personal goals. NOTE: this is the only form of extra credit offered in this class.
LATE WORK
Daily work & homework will not be accepted late. Assignments turned in at the end of the day or the next morning will not receive any credit. Assignments will be graded as is during class, so come to class prepared with your assignments completed.
At least one-two hours each week will be needed outside of regular class time to complete Biology I assignments; Biology II assignments may take up to three hours a week. This is consistent with a “C” average student. Higher grades will require more time outside of class. Students must be willing to work outside of class on class assignments.
Correction Policy
- Completed homework and daily assignments can be corrected for full credit prior to the test. Corrections consist of an explanation of why the original answer is incorrect followed by the correct answer. Your corrections should be highlighted so they can be easily identified. When you submit a corrected assignment please write CORRECTIONS across the top of your page.
- Laboratory reports and research papers can be corrected until the student decides to stop revising the papers or until the end of the academic period. The revised copy must be stapled on top of the original paper and the original grading rubric when submitted.
- Quizzes or tests CANNOT be corrected.
MOODLE: Modular, Object-Oriented, Dynamic, Learning Environment
Moodle is an open source course management system. Open source means it is freely available to download and use; users then have access to the computer code and can customize the application to meet their needs. A course management system is an online program used for teaching online courses or to supplement traditional face-to-face classroom instruction. Many universities and colleges use CMSs like Moodle and Blackboard to aid instruction and facilitate communication within a learning community.
We will utilize Moodle as the primary means of course organization and communication between students and myself. Parents, I would encourage you to ask your student to show you our online classroom and to walk you through some of features Moodle has to offer.
