Groundbreaking scheduled for new elementary
Thursday, March 20, 2008
As plans for the new Eudora Elementary School are finalized, a groundbreaking ceremony has been scheduled for 6 p.m. on March 27, 2008. The ceremony will take place on the northeast Eudora building site, with access to the site at the 11th Street dead-end off of Peach Street. The community is invited to attend the ceremony, which is free and open to the public. To download a copy of the invitation, click here.
"This is a symbolic event that signals the start of all the exciting projects we'll be seeing in our district during the next few years," said Superintendent of Schools Marty Kobza. "These projects are the result of the hard work of volunteers, the support of our patrons and the desire to provide our students with the best possible educational opportunities well into the future."
Students will be featured throughout the ceremony, including a performance by the West Elementary Honors Choir, made up of fourth and fifth grade students.
The event will take place on the building site, near 10th and Peach streets in northeast Eudora. Guests should enter the site at the 11th Street dead end, off of Peach Street. Limited parking will be available on Peach and on the construction site’s land (weather permitting). If possible, attendees are encouraged to carpool to ensure parking for all guests. Those with a wheelchair or other special accommodation are asked to contact the district office in advance at 542-4910 so that arrangements may be made for access to the site.
If weather conditions should prevent the ceremony from taking place on March 27, a decision to postpone will be made by 1 p.m. that day and announced on the front page of the district Web site. If rescheduled, the groundbreaking ceremony will take place at 6 p.m. on Thursday, April 3.
For more information about the event, call the Eudora Schools district office at 542-4910, or send an e-mail. To learn more about the plans for the new Eudora Elementary School, including drawings and graphics, visit the bond section of the Web site.
