The Eudora High School concert band performed on April 16 at the State Large Group Music Festival, held at Rock Creek High School. The concert band earned an overall II (Excellent) rating for their performance, receiving one I rating and two II ratings.
"The concert band was only one point away from earning an overall I rating for the first time in almost a decade," said director of bands Mac Knight. "This was by far the best performance the Eudora High School band has had in a long time."
Smaller band ensembles and three soloists also performed April 12 at the Regional Solo and Small Ensemble Festival, held at Baker University. The trumpet ensemble and brass ensemble improved on their performance last year, finishing with II (Excellent) ratings. The saxophone ensemble and clarinet ensemble earned III (Good) ratings.
Earning 1 (Superior) ratings and moving on to the State Solo and Ensemble Festival are the percussion ensemble, senior Whitney Box, bass clarinet solo, and senior Josh Blaisdell, marimba solo. Freshman Cody Wells, baritone, performed his first solo and earned a II (Excellent) rating.
"This is the third appearance at state for Whitney," Knight said. "It's the second appearance for Josh on percussion and the first appearance for the percussion ensemble. All of our student musicians deserve to be congratulated."
