About Eudora Schools: District news

Kobza leaving Eudora at year's end

Friday, April 18, 2008

Eudora Superintendent of Schools Marty Kobza announced today that he has accepted a new position in Hot Springs county, Wyo., and will be leaving Eudora in June.

“While I know this may come as a surprise to many of the people who work here, it is an opportunity for me and my family to pursue new goals that are very important to us,” Kobza said.

His new district will about half the size of Eudora, and he said it will be a good fit for his family.

"It's never easy to leave a place like this," he said. "This community has been our home for 14 years, and I am humbled by the opportunities we've had here. I am exceedingly proud of this district our students and staff and the work that takes place here every day."

Kobza has been superintendent since 2001 but has worked in the district for a total of 14 years. During his tenure as superintendent, he oversaw the passage of two bond issues, in 2001 to build the new Eudora High School, and most recently in 2007, which will build a new elementary school for grades 1-5, along with projects affecting students in all grade levels.

Eudora Board of Education President Kenny Massey expressed his appreciation of Kobza's work in a message to district employees. He assured staff members that all the current projects and priorities will continue as planned, and that the board is committed to developing a smooth transition for Kobza's successor. A special board meeting has been scheduled for Monday, April 21, to allow the board an opportunity to explore options that will help this transition begin.
