Board of Education adopts plan for leadership transition

Monday, April 21, 2008

Tonight the Eudora Board of Education unanimously approved a plan for a transition of leadership, following the recent resignation of Superintendent Marty Kobza. Don Grosdidier agreed to assume district leadership as interim superintendent at the request of the board.

"Our district has so many great things going on, and the board is excited about the vision and direction that things are headed," said Board President Kenny Massey. "Don has collaborated directly with Marty and the district's leadership team over the past years, and we are confident that he will be able to carry forward the momentum and follow through on the plans that the community has endorsed."

Grosdidier has been with the district for 22 years, most recently as assistant superintendent of curriculum and instruction. Leadership duties in his new role will increase progressively over the next two months, leading up to Kobza's departure in June.

Grosdidier welcomed the opportunity to help provide leadership during and after Kobza’s departure.

“I appreciate the Board’s confidence in me,” he said, “and I look forward to the opportunity to provide continuity so that the district’s vision and direction remain steady and move forward.”

"Our district patrons have indicated, both through a phone survey last year and at the polls in November, that they believe this district is on the right course," Massey said. "Because our patrons have endorsed the current vision, Don's appointment is in line with the community's wishes and a natural progression for all of us."

Massey added that no projects or priorities will be delayed during or after the transition.

"Bond projects are on schedule," he said. "Building and project completion deadlines will not be affected by the transition, and we're still on track to open up Eudora Elementary School in the fall of 2009. Contract negotiations are on course with our teachers, and they will continue. Our day-to-day operations will not be interrupted, and we believe this transition will continue to provide the best possible opportunities to our students and our staff members."
