Eudora High School band members proved themselves worthy of a trip to the state solo and small ensemble festival with assorted Superior (I) and Excellent (II) ratings. The festival took place on April 26 at Andover High School.
Seniors Whitney Box, bass clarinet, and Josh Blaisdell, marimba, earned Superior (I) ratings for their instrumental solos. Blaisdell also earned a Superior rating accompanying the EHS Cantorei choir on the vibraphone in their performance at the festival.
"According to our records, Josh and Whitney are the first instrumental soloists to earn a Superior rating at the state level in over 20 years," said director of bands Mac Knight. "Earning this rating is an extremely difficult task, requiring tremendous effort and self-discipline."
The EHS percussion ensemble earned an Excellent (II) rating at the festival. The ensemble is made up of Blaisdell, Fabian Fernandez, John Chumbley, Ryan Pennington, Matt Schultz, Chad Wilson, Lucas Wingebach and Hawley Montgomery.
"This is a great accomplishment for a young group consisting of two seniors, three sophomores and two freshmen," Knight said. "We look forward to more great performances from the percussion ensemble in the future."
