EHS art students win league title

Thursday, May 8, 2008

Eudora High School art students successfully finished first in the contest portion of the fifteenth annual Frontier League Art Festival on May 7 with an overall score of 201. The next closest finish, in second place, was De Soto High School with 104 points. Spring Hill and Gardner tied for third with 85 points each. EHS was the host school for this year's event.

EHS students won the prestigious sidewalk chalk contest with a design by senior Stef Wingebach. Eudora artists won four of the five best of show awards (purple ribbons), eight excellence awards (blue ribbons) and eight merit merit awards (red ribbons).

During the festival students enjoyed painting a graffiti wall and drawing on a Cadillac chalkboard car on the back lawn as well as sketching a Harley Chopper. Workshops in Digital Imaging, Printmaking and Collage also kept art students busy.

Award winners were:

  • Best of Show: Morgan Abel, Marion Mersmann, Baylee Schmeck, and Chase Brecheisen
  • Excellence Award: Stef Wingebach, Marian Mersmann, Baylee Schmeck, Sam Randel, Becky Dreifuss, Krista Beedle, Kristin Becker and Alex Tacke.
  • Merit Awards: Stef Wingebach (two entries) Marian Mersmann, Baylee Schmeck, Sam Randel, Becky Dreifuss, Chase Brecheisen and Kelsee Evans.

The Frontier League schools have organized this event for 15 years; during that time EHS has won seven titles and never been lower than third place.
