Becky White, computer support specialist for Eudora Schools, became the latest recipient of the Eudora Schools Apple Award in a surprise presentation from Superintendent of Schools Marty Kobza on May 12.
"This award is based on the belief that excellence among individuals creates excellence across the district," Kobza said. "It's an important way to recognize the outstanding people who do great work here every day."
White has worked in the district's information technology department for 10 years. She works closely with district staff members to provide support, training and solutions in both classroom and office environments. She also provides management for the district's student information system, PowerSchool.
The nomination for White included the following comments to illustrate her dedication:
- "Becky's expertise in PowerSchool and the software/user experience puts her side by side with teachers and staff every day. Her patience, compassion and good nature make her approachable and effective, even for those who are intimidated and frustrated by technology."
- "She has contributed to staff development at in-services, she has developed documents to help users troubleshoot problems, and she has committed herself to projects that require her work and attention long after the buildings and offices are closed."
- "What makes her stand out are her interpersonal skills as a trainer and support specialist. Even the most obvious, simple problems get her fully professional, personalized approach."
The Apple Award is given twice yearly to a staff member, in any position, who has demonstrated outstanding service or achievement. Nominations are submitted by anyone in the district and evaluated by a selection committee representing a diverse group of job titles.
"Our selection committee had a very difficult assignment this time around," Kobza said, "because the nominees all were outstanding. Becky's contribution to our district represents the kind of excellence that takes place every day all across our district."
