It's summer!
Monday, June 2, 2008
School's out, the weather's heating up, and camps and ball games are in full swing ... it must be summer! Summer is a great time for relaxation and exploration for children of all ages. Keep in mind that school will be back in session before you know it, so summer is also a great time to keep young minds sharp! Here are some fun ideas for summertime learning ... and the best news is, they may not even feel like work!
- A lemonade stand (great for working on math, measurements and money!)
- Summer reading program at the Eudora Public Library
- Keeping up on current events by reading the newspaper (high school students)
- Art projects (don't forget about sidewalk chalk or some outdoor finger painting!)
- Keeping a journal or documenting a family outing in a family scrapbook
- Working in the garden. Caring for a plant or two is great for science and measurement skills — and can help develop a sense of responsibility.
- Helping to plan a summer vacation or day trip/outing (geography, map reading, budgeting)
- Any number of fun activities that can be found online...try some of the links below for just a few ideas to get you started!
School buildings will be closed from June 24 to Aug. 1. And mark your calendar for fall — classes will begin again with a partial day for grades 1-9 on Aug. 12 and a full day for grades 1-12 on Aug. 13. School supply lists can be found by clicking on the button on the front page of the district site, or by clicking here.
In the meantime, stay cool, have fun and stay sharp this summer!
