EHS seniors selected to serve in Chamber of Commerce

Two Eudora High School seniors will serve as student representatives on the Eudora Chamber of Commerce this year. Carl Abram and Madison Mater will participate in chamber meetings to get a better sense of how the community works and to bring a student perspective to the organization.
Lori Fritzel, who is chamber administrator and a member of the Eudora City Council, first launched the student representative program last year, after hearing about other programs to engage youths in community groups. She said the results are good for the students and for the community.
"One of the roundtable discussions I attended during a state meeting talked about getting your kids involved in the community with the thought that by getting them involved they would have a sense of belonging to the community," Fritzel said when the program first began.
Abram and Mater first heard about the opportunity through their U.S. government course at EHS. Teacher Robyn Kelso asked interested students to sign up and then selected the best candidates based on a variety of factors, including academic success, attendance and input from other teachers.
"I had a great pool of candidates, which made it a very hard decision" Kelso said. "These two students will do a great job for the Chamber."
