Community meeting to examine pedestrian safety in Eudora
Monday, Oct. 6, 2008
A community meeting at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 8, will bring together leaders from Eudora and Douglas County to discuss the importance of safe paths for walking and biking in the area. The meeting is free and open to the public; it will take place at the Eudora Community Center.
Panelists will include Don Grosdidier, Eudora superintendent of schools; Cheryl Beatty, Eudora city administrator; Greg Dahlem, Eudora chief of police; Lt. Kari Wempe with the Douglas County Sheriff Department; and Eudora High School junior Emma Kruger.
The format of the meeting will allow ample time for community members to ask questions and comment about issues related to safe walkways.
"Safe routes to school are one of the top priorities for me, both as a school district employee and a resident of Eudora," Grosdidier said. "It will take partnerships of all kinds to make things happen and improve the safety of people walking and biking in Eudora, but it's something that we should work hard to facilitate."
The community meeting is part of National Walk to School Day and is being sponsored in part by the Eudora Pedestrian Safety Committee. The committee includes community leaders, as well as residents representing a variety of backgrounds.
