About Eudora Schools: District news

Parent, student volunteers needed for crisis drill

Tuesday, Oct. 7, 2008

Parents and student volunteers will help Eudora Schools staff members practice and test an important procedure: release of students during or after a crisis. The student safety and release procedure is part of the district's crisis management plan, and the drill will take place at the Eudora High School commons at 1:45 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 8. This is an early release day for students.

"We are fortunate that we have never had to run a full-scale student safety and release procedure before," said Don Grosdidier, superintendent of schools. "This is the right time for us to practice the procedure and work out any issues or questions that might come up during a time of calm, rather than a time of emergency."

Parent and student volunteers are asked to arrive at the high school commons at 1:45 for the drill, which is expected to take approximately 30 minutes to complete. All students must be accompanied by an adult.

"We welcome students and their parents to participate in this drill," Grosdidier said. "It will help us prepare, but more importantly, it will help parents better understand the process so they'll know what to expect, should we ever activate our student safety and release team."
