7th Grade Health Class

The state of Kansas requires that public schools teach a unit on sexual health and reproduction. The Eudora curriculum includes this component according to the Kansas state standards.

The state’s health education standards are divided into three sections of grade levels: K-4, 5-8 and 9-12. Wellness education, including such topics as nutrition, exercise and healthy living, are taught at all levels in our schools. Human sexuality and reproductive health do not enter our district’s curriculum until fifth grade and are specifically identified in fifth, sixth, seventh, eighth and ninth grades.

Your student will be starting this human sexuality unit in health class in two weeks. Students will receive information to take home about the human sexuality curriculum as well as an opt-out letter  on February 8th. If you did not receive these items or would like more information, please call or email your student’s health teacher.

State law requires that school districts notify parents of their right to opt their student out of the unit on sexuality and reproduction.  It is the sole responsibility of a student’s parent or guardian to complete and return this form if it is desired that the student not participate in this unit. Click here for the form: Health Class Opt Out form

Students who are opted out of the reproductive education unit will not attend class sessions planned for the unit on human sexuality and reproductive health. These students will be given alternate assignments by their health teacher to complete in an independent-study format.

Changes in Informaton

Please keep the school informed of any address, home phone or cell phone numbers, e-mail addresses, and contacts changes for your son or daughter. These changes sometimes get overlooked and can be a problem for the school to contact you.

Report Cards

The Eudora Middle School printed report cards are a thing of the past. Parents now have access at any time to their students academic progress. If you haven't gotten your ID and password to check on your student's grades in PowerSchool, please come into the office and show a picture ID and you'll receive the information. If you know of a student's family who does not have a computer or computer access, please pass the word along that if they contact the office a report card will be printed for them.

Welcome back!  It is always exciting to get back to school after a long break.  I'm happy to say our students or teachers did not skip a beat.  They all are very focused to the goal of education.  I’m really proud of how everyone has settled into this second semester.

As you are aware, schools have had to focus on state testing in the third quarter of school, we are no different. Our state testing will begin very soon and will last until first of April.  We ask you help us in this effort in getting your children ready for each day with a good breakfast and have them at school for the proper instruction needed.  We will do our best to teach them the skills necessary to score at the proficient level on all state assessments.

With some of the changes we have made this school year, we all have high expectations for our students.  Only time will tell!

Mr. Henn
