Getting oriented at Eudora Elementary School
Friday, Aug. 7, 2009
As Eudora Elementary School prepares to open, staff members are working hard to make sure the first day of school is enjoyable for everyone.
Click here for a map of the elementary school floor plan, including grade level areas.
But even after the first day has come and gone, it will take continuing efforts of the school and the community to ensure the safety of every child and adult who is traveling to or near the new building. The procedures below will be in place, and all drivers are asked to work with the school community to help keep parking lots and roadways safe for every student.
Click here to download a map of the traffic and parking procedures.
CAR DROP OFFS (parent cars or carpools)
- Students will enter and exit the school from the north side, using the entrances that face 10th Street (adjacent to the school office). Students in first, third and fifth grades will use the west set of doors by the office, while students in second and fourth grades will use the east set of doors by the office.
- Drivers coming from the west (coming from the main part of town) on 10th Street should use the second driveway. (The first driveway is reserved for district buses only.)
- Drivers coming from the east should use the east driveway from 10th Street, closest to Peach Street.
- Drivers, please note: Traffic is designed to allow for a single lane only. Cars must remain in one line for the safety of all students; passing other vehicles once children are unloaded from your vehicle will not be allowed.
WALKING TO SCHOOL
- Students walking to school should enter the school property from the south or from the east, along Peach Street or along 12th Street. Due to the volume and speed of traffic, no students should walk along 10th Street.
- Once at the school, students will enter and exit the building from the southwest doors, adjacent to the commons.
- For
safety reasons as we open a new school, students will not be
allowed to ride bicycles to school during the 2009-2010 school
year.
RIDING THE BUS TO SCHOOL
- Students on shuttle buses or rural routes will enter and exit through the south and west doors of the building, where the buses drop off and pick up. In the afternoon, all bus and shuttle riders will gather in the school’s commons area and line up by bus number. They will be led to the bus loading area and supervised until they have boarded their bus.
- Those
picking up a child who has ridden the shuttles to EES should use
the designated parking lot on the far southwest end of the
school.
BREAKFAST AT SCHOOL
Breakfast will be served beginning at 7:30 a.m. Children eating breakfast should enter the school through the north doors (if arriving by car) or south doors (if walking to school or arriving by bus). They should proceed to the commons, where breakfast will be served.
ADULT SUPERVISION BEFORE AND AFTER SCHOOL
To ensure the safety of all students, supervision will be provided for all students arriving at school beginning at 7:30 a.m. until school starts, and in the afternoon from dismissal until 3:30 p.m. Parents and families are responsible for arranging other early or late care for students outside of this time.
