Eudora ACT scores improve again
Thursday, Sept. 9, 2010
Eudora High School ACT scores continue to improve, beating the state and national averages for the exam. The average composite score at EHS was 22.8, up from 22.2 the year before. The state average composite is 22.0.
Eudora students also showed improvement in each of the sub-categories of the exam, consisting of English, mathematics, reading and science. Also noteworthy is the number of students who took the exam — 77, or 82 percent of the senior class. The Eudora participation rate is well above the state average of 75 percent.
"Our students' success is a direct reflection of the effort of our dedicated teachers and staff," said EHS principal G.A. Buie. "ACT preparation is a priority at Eudora High School, and it's clear that the work being done by our staff, students and parents is paying off."
The ACT is scored on a scale of 1 to 36, with 36 being highest. A district's scores reflect achievement of graduates on the ACT over time and can be used as one indication of the extent to which students are prepared for college-level work. The exam consists of curriculum-based tests of educational development in English, math, reading and science, designed to measure the skills needed for success in first-year college course work.
"We are committed to preparing all students for the next step after high school," Buie said. "ACT scores, as well as our career and technical education programs, all play into this equation, and we're proud of our students' preparations for life after graduation."
