Eighth grader to represent EMS at county spelling bee
Thursday, Jan. 19, 2012
Some three dozen Eudora Middle School students spent weeks preparing for the annual spelling bee, and it took 11 rounds of words — and the correct spelling of extrapolate — before the group was narrowed to one winner. Eighth grader Baron Miller then correctly spelled dramaturgy to secure the school title, as well as a trip to the Douglas County spelling bee on Feb. 4.
Ten students from each of the school's three grades competed in the bee, which uses the Scripps National Spelling Bee list of words.
Eighth grader Kristi Daigh finished as runner up and will serve as an alternate in the county bee.
"It takes a lot of hard work, patience and practice to compete in a spelling bee," said EMS counselor Deanna Brown. "I am so proud of our students' efforts, and they should be proud of themselves, as well."
