Students in extracurricular activities and sports also have received recognition in the state of Kansas and beyond. Here is just a small sample of recent extracurricular excellence:

  • A Eudora seventh grader's essay was selected as first runner-up from among 1,500 Kansas entries in the 2008 LearningQuest essay contest.
  • 2008 graduate Kim Scherman was selected from auditions in a seven state region to the highly competitive Southwest Division Senior Honor Choir, the first-ever Eudora student to earn a spot in a divisional choir.
  • Boys and girls varsity teams took high honors at the league, regional and state levels. Dance and cheer squads placed in several regional competitions.
  • Individual athletics honors included several all-metro, all- and all-state athletes, in a variety of sports. 2008 graduate and football player Morgan Abel was named to the east team for the Kansas Shrine Bowl.
  • Culinary arts student Austin Abramwas elected to serve as state president of SkillsUSA for 2008-2009.

  • EHS student artists finished at the top in the annual Frontier League Art Contest in 2008, making it the seventh first place finish since the contest's inception. Over the history of the event, EHS has never finished lower than third place.
  • In 2008, for the fourth consecutive year, a student from the district's graphic communications program was recognized in the statewide pin design contest.

The district is experiencing unprecedented levels of success with a number of projects that will carry student programs well into the future. A $45 million bond was passed in November 2007, which includes a new elementary school for grades 1-5, a center dedicated to early childhood education and a new technical education center and a new district stadium, as well as additions and renovations to Eudora Middle School and Eudora High School.

In addition, Eudora Schools was named a recipient of a federal Safe Schools/Healthy Students grant in 2008— the only agency in the state of Kansas to receive funding in that award cycle. The grant will bring as much as $3 million over four years to build programs that will help provide services to increase student learning, decrease the need for intervention and further engage families in our public schools.

Additional achievements and recent awards may be found in the district's news section.
