History of the
building
Nottingham was built in 1965. It has transitioned several times to
meet the growing needs of the district, with additions in 1974 and
1996. It was named for Roberta Nottingham, a Eudora teacher from
1942 to 1967.
Organizational
plan
The organizational plan for grades K-2 is basically self-contained.
No two classes are exactly alike, and each teacher uses the
techniques that he or she feels provide the best possible learning
situation for the students assigned to that class.
In the early grades, much emphasis is placed on getting along with others and developing a positive self-image. Reading readiness and reading mastery skills are highly emphasized in the beginning school years. Gradually, more and more emphasis is placed on other academic skills such as math, writing, work-study skills, increased vocabulary, language skills and more advanced reading skills.
Throughout the grades, individualization of instruction is stressed as much as it is practical. We continually strive to find and use positive and individual approaches to teaching so that each child develops his or her own unique abilities.
