After decades of using other well-known cardinal images, the district began using its own Power Cardinal in 1998. Retired EHS art teacher Gary Hinman designed the mascot image, which now appears throughout the district and community.

This image is legally owned by Eudora Schools USD 491 and is protected as the Power Cardinal through the Kansas Secretary of State with a service-mark. Businesses, organizations or private individuals wishing to use the Eudora Power Cardinal image must first seek permission from the district office. Unauthorized use of the Cardinal is not allowed.

Why is the Power Cardinal a protected image?
Because the Cardinal is a powerful image in our schools and community, district leaders and school board members want to protect its integrity and monitor its use. Doing so will help make sure this image remains a source of pride for students, families, patrons and alumni of our schools for many years to come. 

What is involved in the authorization process?
Those seeking permission to use the Power Cardinal must complete a License Agreement and may be subject to a usage fee, as determined by the Eudora Board of Education. I already have a copy of the Cardinal — can I just use that?
When the state trademark was issued for our Power Cardinal image, all graphic files were revised to include SM (service-mark) designation in the lower right corner. All reproductions of the Cardinal must be a version with the SM designation, which will be provided to an authorized user by the district office. We'll also make sure your copy of the Cardinal is the quality you need for a great result.

Do I need permission if I want to use the Cardinal on a product I plan to sell or give away?
Yes, all use of the Eudora Power Cardinal must be authorized through the district office.

Can I have shirts or hats printed up with the Cardinal for my class or family reunion?
Absolutely! Just coordinate with the district office to be sure you have the approved copy of the Eudora Cardinal (one that includes the SM designation in the lower right corner). Terms of use and any applicable licensing fee will apply.
