Mr. Damian Johnson

Instrumental Music

 

Damian Johnson has been the Director of Bands at Eudora Middle and High School in Eudora, KS for the past 8 years. Prior to that, Mr. Johnson served in the same capacity in Hiawatha, KS for 12 years and at Southwest Charter School in Kansas City, MO for 2 1/2 years.

Mr. Johnson received his BME from Washburn University in 1999 and his MaED from Baker University in 2006. Mr. Johnson has served as a clinician and adjudicator for bands in Kansas, Nebraska, and Missouri. Mr. Johnson received the Teacher of the Year Award for Hiawatha USD 415 in 2005, the Wal-Mart Teacher of the Year for the Hiawatha region in 2010, the Kansas Music Educators Association Northeast District High School Teacher of the Year in 2010, and the Teacher of the Month for Eudora Schools in February of 2015.  In 2021, Mr. Johnson was one of two recipients of the Wolfe Teaching Award from the University of Kansas.  Mr. Johnson also recently received the 2023 Eudora Schools Secondary Teacher of the Year.

Mr. Johnson is a member of Phi Beta Mu, NAfME, KMEA, KBA, and NEA. Mr. Johnson served as the 1234A Kansas All-State Band Chairperson in 2014 & 2015 and was President of the Kansas Bandmasters Association (KBA) in 2018 & 2019. Currently, Mr. Johnson is the Vice President of the Northeast Kansas Music Educators Association.  In July of 2020, Mr. Johnson was appointed to the Council for Band Education for the National Association for Music Education.  Mr. Johnson resides in Eudora, KS with his wife, Brandi and his three daughters, LeAnne, Jada and Nia.
