Mrs. Peavey

At Eudora Elementary School, students have the opportunity to step into a world of creativity and culture. In the art room, students in Kindergarten through Fifth Grade will be learning about the Principals and Elements of Design guided by the New National Visual Arts Standards. Students will be exploring a variety of mediums to produce work reflecting not only the Elements of Design such as color, line, and shape but also inspired by contemporary and historical artists as well as different cultures around the world.

My teaching style is based on a variety of methods including Discipline Based Art Education where students will learn art history and criticism with a focus on art production. The majority of our time will be spent experimenting, building skills, and creating art. I will also be employing the 8 Studio Habits of Mind, which encourage children to “think like artists” by developing their own ideas, practicing the craft, sharing, and reflecting.

In the art room, our students will learn about the world outside their town, learn about history and math and speaking, practice fine motor skills, creative thinking, and problem-solving. Our world needs creative thinkers and citizens who value and care about other cultures. I am so excited to go on this journey with our kids and help bring a little extra joy and beauty to my EES family.
