I was born and raised in Belleville, Kansas, along with my sister Kim, where my father farmed and my mother taught high school. I have two degrees, one from the University of Kansas and one from Kansas State University. While at KU, I was a member of the Track and Field team (Hammer Throw). While on the team, I met my future wife Candace (Mason). We have been married for 17 years, making our home in Eudora in 2003. We have two amazing boys, Conor and Caden.
I graduated from KU with a degree in nursing with ambitions to enter anesthesia school. I worked for three years in the Intensive Care Units in Lawrence and Manhattan, Kansas. After a lot of soul searching and support from my loved ones, I decided to return to college (K-State) and pursue a degree in education. Upon graduation, I was hired to teach and coach in the De Soto School District in Shawnee, Kansas (Douglas County) and continued teaching and coaching at USD #232 for the next 16 years. I taught three years of social studies at Monticello Trails Middle School before transfering to Mill Valley High School to teach a political science course and a separate course focusing on “current social issues.” This summer, I was hired to teach American Government at Eudora High School. I am excited about the opportunity to teach in the community we've made our home.
My "teaching" transformational purpose statement reads, "To help each individual find happiness on their journey by promoting understanding of self and others, which will foster love and create peace."
