EHS Powerlifting State Placements

Scott Russell, EHS Powerlifting Coach, presented the state placements and the success over the season.

Eudora Middle School Youth Empowerment and Prevention

Brooke Mulvihill presented a over a vape lockbox. EMS Youth Empowerment and Prevention was named honorable chapter of the year. The Vape Lock Boxes would allow students to surrender their vapes and encourage them to quit vaping.

EHS Capstones Projects

Dylan Schmidt and Nate Reazin presented their idea of Paint-A-Palooza. They spoke about seniors being stressed and the need to reduce it. This project would be an Art Therapy method to combat senior stress. There will be rules and regulations regarding the art and the structure of Paint-A-Palooza.

Parker Hurla presented his idea of a mutual agreement between the City of Eudora and the schools to create a multi-purpose that benefits the community in multiple ways. This project would allow a safe place to play, a relationship built between the school and city, as well as benefiting the youth.

Communications and Administrative Reports

Administrative Report - Eudora Elementary School

EES has three Building Goals: Team Building and Culture, Data Driven Decisions, and Community Partnerships. Jamie Grado, EES Assistant Principal, shared the importance of Team Building and School Culture. Keith Wohlgemuth, EES Assistant Principal talked about the actionable steps they have taken to understand the data. Seth Heide, EES Principal, explained the growth of community partnerships that EES has had throughout the year. Each grade level presented the successes that they have has this year.

The biggest growths for Early Childhood were independence and social/emotional development.

Kindergarten has targeted skills and have seen tremendous growth in both math and reading. 84% of Kindergarten students are performing on grade level or above.

First grade’s oral reading and iReady math statistics show they have made incredible growth.

Second grade hosted a humane society supply drive during winter, had a presentation with Growing Smiles Dentistry, and had an interactive Fire Safety Presentation.

Third grade’s big focus is community relationships. They had presentations from the Giving Garden, Library, and field trips to the Eudora Community Museum.

Fourth grade had successful Math Mondays, increases to tier 1 in math, as well as had Garver Engineers present interactive lessons. They took a trip to Topeka to learn about state government firsthand.

Fifth grade’s aReading tier 1 students increased and tier 3 decreased, which shows more students are on grade level. Students were also able to go on a big end of the year field trip to Main Event!

Chelsey Stultz presented the SEL numbers from this year. They are proud of their “FLIK” (finding leadership in kids) program that 4th and 5th graders are invited to join.

Jordan Lorenzo shared the success of the Girls On The Run program at EES. This year they had 25 participants up from 9 last year.

KESA District Pilot Update
-
The Eudora School Continuous Improvement Plan is modeled after the KESA Method. The Building Leadership Team and the District Leadership team will develop goals and present them back to the board at a later meeting.

ESports Opportunities
-
The board will review ESports and the curriculum, educational opportunities, career opportunities, and life skills. There will be a future presentation on ESports.

Building Handbooks
-
The board will review these handbooks and look to approve them at the June meeting.

Eudora Schools Foundation Report
Mrs. Whalen shared that at their Annual Business Meeting, there were new board members added and previous ones transitioned. Ron Abel was present to give a history of Eudora Schools throughout the year.
Special Education Interlocal Board Meeting Report
Mrs. Reazin shared that they discussed paraprofessional retention and attraction along with strategies on how to do this. She also talked about how the funding conversations at the state level have continued. Mrs. Plate mentioned there was a presentation from the SEAC. They are also in the process of interviewing an Assistant Director.
City of Eudora Planning Commission Meeting Report
Mr. Hurla reported on the last meeting from the Planning Commission. There is rezoning request in progress for commercial property along K-10. Discussions are still taking place over the land use for Nottingham Center.
Curriculum Coordinating Council Report
Mrs. Harding shared that the April 21st professional development day was a success! She mentioned there is an effort to be more intentional about priority standards.

Eudora Times Graduation Presentation

Teri Finneman presented the Graduation edition of the Eudora Times. She also spoke about “Kids Scoop”, a monthly newspaper for elementary school students.

State Qualifiers

EHS Boys Basketball
-
Coach Deterding presented the high school basketball team and their 4th place achievement at the state basketball tournament.

EMS and EHS Science Olympiad
-
Barbie Hartwell shared the successes of the EMS and EHS Science Olympiad teams. EMS took 4th, and EHS took 1st in small schools in the state tournament.

Administrative Report - Eudora High School

Jessica Johnson, Director of Virtual and Alternative Programs, presented the history, enrollment, graduation rate, and successes of Cardinal Academy and the Virtual Program.

Cara Kimberlin, Assistant Principal and Athletic Director at EHS, shared the participation of students in school sports/activities/clubs/groups and their appreciation for the recent updates in facilities including turf, lights, and a variety related to track and field.

Ron Abel, Head Principal at Eudora High School, shared over the discipline and E-Hallpass statistics from this year. He also presented the breakdown of students, participation in CTE, EHS Initiatives in the coming school year, and the foundational beliefs at EHS.

Jamie Grado, Assistant Principal at EEs and Summer Academy Coordinator, shared what’s to come for Summer Academy this summer.

Dustin Baker with Alcove Development pitched an offer to purchase the land that borders the South/Southwest side of Winchester for $75,000.

Dan Cole presented on Safe Defend and how their organization serves schools.

Mr. Mockel reviewed the results of the Stay Survey. This survey was broken down into four categories: Participation, Engagement, Values, and Net Promoter Score.

Applauding Excellence - May 8, 2023, at Eudora High School
Eudora Schools Foundation Report
Mrs. Whalen shared that a total of $59,000 was raised during Give Day. The ribbon cutting for the new disc golf course is Friday, April 14th. 30 community and business leaders will be attending principal for a half day.
Special Education Interlocal Board Meeting Report
Mrs. Plate shared that they talked about their strategic plan, directors’ evaluation, supporting paras in the classroom, health insurance options, and upcoming negotiations.
City of Eudora Planning Commission Meeting Report
Mr. Hurla shared the planning commission approved the rezoning of the property across from the elementary school.
Curriculum Coordinating Council Report
Mrs. Harding shared information about the upcoming April 21st PD and the ED Camps that will be held. They also discussed IXL, a math resource to be used at Summer Academy, required reading across subjects, and the partnership with Peaslee Tech.

Chromebook Bid

Ron Long, Director of Technology, shared the different bids received.

It was moved and seconded to accept the bid for the 275 Acer Model 712 Chromebooks for Easter Data Inc. for $49,387.50 ad presented.

Eudora Middle School Dishwasher Purchase

Approve the purchase of a new dishwasher at the Eudora Middle School from TriMark in the amount of $47,950.75, as presented.

Coach Cleveland presented about the 4 state qualifiers for EHS Wrestling.

Mr. Johnson shared about the success of the EHS Band/Choir and EMS Choir.

Administrative Report - Eudora Middle School

Mr. Thomas shared the growth the middle school students have shown in reading, math, and student involvement. Notably, 6th grade students showed a 98.25% of positive reading assessment growth. Next, he shared about the future of PLC+. EMS would like to see EmpowerU replaced by JAG-K. This would likely increase involvement and student success. Mr. Pattison shared an update on the EMS Hunter Safety Education and the achievement of the 43 students involved in the course. All 43 students passed and are now certified in hunter safety.

Mr. Moeckel shared updates on the Nottingham Property, South K10 Project, Housing Development, and Panasonic.

Eudora Schools Foundation Report
Mrs. Whalen shared that the Eudora Schools Foundation exceeded their goal of $50,000 during Give Day.
Special Education Interlocal Board Meeting Report
Mrs. Plate shared that at their last meeting they discussed their strategic plan, IEP audits, focusing on the ‘why’ of interventions, student surveys, and staffing. They emphasized that consistency is crucial for these students.

The Board accepted the 36 month 1GB + 13 static IP bid from Midco for $790.00/month starting July 1, 2023.

The Board approved Newkirk Novak Construction Partners Inc. as the district’s construction management firm for upcoming projects.
