The change to the current year moved a teacher inservice day from Monday, May 15 to Friday, April 28. There will be no school on April 28, for teachers to have a day of professional learning, and the last day of school will be May 15.
"I realize that calendar changes can be difficult for families," said Steve Splichal, superintendent of schools, "which is why we made this decision in February. We have discovered that this schedule is a far more effective day of training for our teachers, and we appreciate the flexibility of our families to adapt to this change."
The 2017-2018 calendar already reflects this valuable calendar revision, with the spring inservice day in April, rather than at the end of the year. It also includes a slightly different schedule for parent-teacher conferences and the October teacher work day, as teachers and principals explore better ways to use conferences to partner with families.
Any family with questions or concerns about the calendar changes is encouraged to contact the school principal as soon as possible.
